Sometimes you have to be your own hero.
I've read Cheryl Rainfield's prior works and she's a fearless young adult author who's not afraid to take on difficult subjects. Her debut novel SCARS revealed why teens commit self-harm and how they could rise above the pain that often leads to cutting. You can read my review of SCARS here. Cheryl is not only a good writer, she's an even better person who spreads real love. Not the fake, buy-my-book-and-I'll-love-you type of conditional love. Cheryl is just as real as her books and that's why I like her. I urge you to check out Cheryl's new young adult novel STAINED which is coming out this Fall.
More about the novel...
In this heart-wrenching and suspenseful teen thriller, sixteen-year-old Sarah Meadows longs for "normal." Born with a port-wine stain covering half her face, all her life she’s been plagued by stares, giggles, bullying, and disgust. But when she’s abducted on the way home from school, Sarah is forced to uncover the courage she never knew she had, become a hero rather than a victim, and learn to look beyond her face to find the beauty and strength she has inside. It’s that—or succumb to a killer.
From the author Cheryl Rainfield...
Like I did with SCARS and HUNTED, I drew on some of my own experiences of bullying, abuse, and trauma to write STAINED and to give it greater emotional depth. Like Sarah in STAINED, I experienced abduction, imprisonment, periods of forced starvation, mind control, and having my life threatened. And like Sarah, I tried hard to fight against my abuser, keep my own sense of self, and escape. I hope readers will see Sarah's strength and courage, and appreciate her emotional growth as she reclaims herself.

Doug, thank you so much for taking part in the STAINED cover reveal; I really appreciate it! And thank you so very much, too, for your kind words about me and my books; they felt so good to read! (hugging you)
ReplyDeleteIt IS so important to me to help break silences and encourage compassion (while entertaining). I guess I do take on difficult subjects. :) But ones that all mean something to me, that have touched me deeply.
Thank you!
You're welcome, Cheryl! I'm just happy share your work with others. :)
